After Morbius ended up being the biggest box office failure in Marvel history, there was not much of a future for other Sony films. Although even after that the company didn’t stop building the universe. The success of Tom Hardy’s Venom movies did add a bit of hope. This was mainly because the company wanted to keep the Spider-Man rights under their league.
The game of delay started with Morbius when the company decided to push the release date seven times (who delays assignments that much?). The film was finally released in 2022. This was the third movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. According to the reports, Sony will follow its trend of delays for the next two Spider-Man movies.

Sony Delays Spider-Man Spin-Offs
There is a piece of bad news for Spidy fans. Sony has officially delayed the release dates for its next two Spider-Man spin-off movies. ‘Kraven the Hunter’, which was earlier scheduled to be released on January 13, 2023, will now premiere later next year on October 6. ‘Madame Web‘ will also be shifted from the earlier release date, October 6, the date on which it was originally set to release. The movie will now debut on February 16, 2024.
Sony and Marvel Studios have partnered together on the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland. But, the company has even launched its own separate cinematic universe with releases such as ‘Venom‘ and ‘Morbius‘. Furthermore, another Marvel movie from Sony, ‘Garfield’ has been pushed from July 12, 2024, to June 6, 2024.
Why Did The Company Make Such a Decision?
Sony definitely needs to step up its game. With the delay in the movie’s release, it will be away from the theatre screen for about 18 months. The company will be out of the limelight for a long time. The other production companies like Marvel and DC are all releasing new stuff that is definitely bad for Sony’s rating. But, after considering the bad reviews that Sony has been getting lately, this would be a good time for them to come up with a new strategy.
Although Sony Pictures already had the release date set aside for Chris Pratt’s ‘Garfield’, after Marvel Studios decided to move off the spot, it had a change in its plans. The company moved ‘Garfield‘s’ release to summer 2024, so ‘Madame Web‘ can be released on February 16, 2024.
