Why Is ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Actor Jake Borelli Leaving The Show?

One of the longest-running television series written and directed by Shonda Rhimes, has been renewed for a twenty-first season. However, amidst rumors of renewal of ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘, there have also been rumors of many actors leaving the series. Among them is actor Jake Borelli. 

Jake Borelli played Dr Levi Schmitt in the series from season 14 of the show. Debuting as an intern in season 14, his character has come a long way. But why is Jake Borelli leaving the show after so many years?

Jake Borelli Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ After Season 20

The series about doctors navigating their professional and personal lives in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital has gained lots of praise from viewers. The critically acclaimed show has a big fan following. The show started airing in 2005 on ABC. Following that the series is all set to be renewed for a twenty-first season. 

It has been reported that all the contracts with the actors are coming to an end at the end of season 20. So Jake Borelli’s leave is also due to budget cuts. However, Deadline also reported that Borelli “is in negotiations to return next season for several episodes to wrap up the story of his character.” So fans have no worries about Dr Levi Schmitt receiving a proper end.

Are Series Regulars Going To Face Cost-Cuts Too? 

Since Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy’ has been running for so long many actors have become series regulars.  Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr, Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, Caterina Scorsone, and Camilla Luddington are some of the actors who have become regular faces on the show. However, fans are worried about their favorite characters leaving the show because of cost-cutting. 

Some sources report that series regulars might not face per-episode pay cuts but their overall compensation might reduce since their appearance in episodes will decrease. Since contracts will be renegotiated, episodic fees and camera time will likely decrease for the series regulars. ‘Grey’s Anatomy season 21’ has a very uncertain future right now.
