The fashion industry’s biggest event theme has been unveiled! The annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the Met Gala, has a historically significant theme for the year 2024. The theme for next year’s Met Ball is ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’ The theme caters to some of the rare, unreleased archival pieces from bygone designers that will be displayed at the event.
In 2023, the theme was catering to the controversial designer Karl Lagerfeld. A year before that, while fashion’s biggest night celebrated the Gilded Age, Kim Kardashian’s dress became the center of controversy. She wore an archival piece of Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn wore the dress during an event where she wished the then-President, John F. Kennedy. The netizens heavily criticized the reality TV star for ruining the dress. Now, the netizens, after next year’s theme reveal, are afraid that a similar debacle will take place in 2024.

Met Gala Theme Will Cater To Land, Sea, And Sky Zones
The theme of Met Gala 2024 has been unveiled, and it is an ode to the century-old archives that will be put on display for the very first time. It will exhibit around 250 never-seen pieces to people in a completely new way. The show will display 400 years of fashion history, with pieces ranging from a 17th-century bodice to contemporary pieces like the Alexander McQueen piece from the 2001 Spring/Summer collection.
Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of the Costume Institute, revealed that there will be three zones that will encapsulate the exhibit. He said, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”
The Met Gala will take place on May 6, 2023, and The Met’s Marina Kellen, French Director and CEO, said, “This innovative show will push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience many facets of a work, to learn more about its history, and, ultimately, to gain a deeper appreciation of its beauty.”
