    What a year it has been for fashion! The industry resurrected itself post the pandemic. While the world was inside the house, and when we went back in time, we came out of it with a hit of nostalgia, and the fashion world got inspired. The Y2K, low-rise skirts gave us Britney Spears, ballet flats, and goth saw a rise. In 2022, Miu Miu, Prada, Balenciaga, and Mugler were the go-to brands for celebrities and fashion connoisseurs also absorbed the trends. But, we see a spill of these trends in 2023 with new emerging trends on the horizon.

    The year 2022 was also turbulent and Kanye West was at the center of the tumult. Along with celebrities, fashion brands have also gone through scrutiny and criticism. Alessandro Michele stepped down as the Creative Director at Gucci after pushing the androgynous fashion for years. Balenciaga put up a successful runway, but they faced major backlash for their festival bags featuring children holding leather harness bags. But, it was a positive year for fashion as well with Mugler seen at concerts and red carpets to celebrities’ fashion. Thanks to Bridgerton, the corsets are back!     One of the integral parts of the runway this year is that power suiting or suiting, in general, is back and will be a part of the 2023 fashion trend. Be it, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, the camp brands Giambattista Valli or Germanier, everyone featured pastel and beige blazers, and tailored cuts on their runways. Styling blazers with hoodies (thanks to Hailey Bieber) is in trend.

    The sleek geek is in trend whereas looking nerd is a fashion statement. With light and dark academia trending on TikTok and Instagram, the beige palette with the goth and knitwear-influenced wardrobe can be your go-to academia look. On the 2023 Fashion Week runways, we saw Academia couture from Prada and Fendi.

    Liane Wiggins, Matchesfashion head said, “As we have seen throughout the other cities, interesting metallics continue to be a standout trend for the season, with Jil Sander’s incredible fabric developments — bouncy metallic chenille, silver sequins, and high craft techniques”. Chanel, Valentino, and Altuzarra flaunted various patterns of the metallics from high fashion to pleats.

    The heavy Cargo was seen on the runways at the Fendi, Diesel, and Coperni shows. They were styled like the Y2K-style low-rise skirt. Prada and Louis Vuitton had multiple pockets attached while Fendi gave an ode to the classic cargo.
