When Was The Historical Place Built?

The original building of Buckingham Palace is situated at the core. This original private townhouse was built by John Sheffield, Third Earl of Mulgrave, and Marquez of Normandy in 1703. It was named Buckingham house after the Earl became the Duke of Buckingham. The house was then bought by King George III in 1761. The house was used as a home for the king’s wife and queen, Charlotte. The palace went through its major renovation in 1761 when it was acquired by King George’s son George IV, who believed in extravagance.

He decided to convert the house into a palace. The architect John Nash was commissioned for the transmission. However, the palace remained unoccupied until Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837. Although the palace was not free of flaws – there were a few design issues like the chimneys which resulted in them smoking so badly that the fires could not be lit. Moreover, there was bad ventilation and a lack of guest bedrooms. Architect Edmund later rectified these issues and also added the additional east wing which the palace is famous for.
