Why Did Diana Retain Her Princess Of Wales Title Even After Her Divorce?
Princess Diana’s father was an Earl, and before her marriage, she was given the title ‘Lady Diana Spencer.’ When she married Prince Charles in 1981, she received a few more titles, including ‘Princess of Wales’. Her other titles were ‘Duchess of Cornwall’ with Charles’ Dukedom of Cornwall and ‘Duchess of Rothesay’ with Charles known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland.
During their divorce settlement, Diana had to lose her title of ‘Her Royal Highness’. Without this title, she was needed to curtsy to all Royal family members including Charles and her two sons. Queen Elizabeth wanted her to retain this title but Charles was totally against it. Therefore it was removed but the Queen allowed her to keep the ‘Princess of Wales’ title instead.

What Would Have Happened To The Title If Diana Had Remarried?
As of now, the Royal family’s website mentions that “The queen, the Prince and the Princess of Wales agreed that the princess was to be known after the divorce as Diana, Princess of Wales, without the style of ‘Her Royal Highness’ (as the princess was given the style ‘HRH’ on marriage she would therefore be expected to give it up on divorce).”
However, Princess Diana lost her life following a car crash, just a year after the divorce. Since she was still a divorcee at the time of her death with the title ‘Princess of Wales’, we can’t be sure what would have happened if she were to re-marry. But many royal experts have said that she would have probably lost the title if she were to get married again.
