A new ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ rumor suggests that the MCU could be preparing one of its most heartbreaking storylines for Steve Rogers. According to a new claim, the original Peggy Carter will reportedly die, with a witch later using her face to psychologically torment Steve.

If the rumor turns out to be true, it could be a devastating twist for a character whose entire journey has been shaped by love, sacrifice, and the people he could never bring himself to leave behind.

Why Peggy’s Death Would Destroy Steve Rogers

Steve spent decades frozen in ice, lost the life he might have had with Peggy, and eventually traveled back in time to live that life with her. After everything he endured, seeing Peggy’s face turned into a weapon against him would be an especially cruel form of torture.

Peggy has always represented more than a romantic interest for Steve. She was one of the first people to see him as a hero before he became Captain America, believing in the man beneath the super-soldier serum. Their relationship also carries enormous emotional weight following ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Steve ultimately chose to return to the past and spend his life with Peggy, making their reunion the emotional conclusion to a journey that began during World War II. That is precisely why using her appearance to manipulate him could be so effective. Steve would not simply be fighting an enemy wearing a familiar face. He would be confronting the memory of love.

The idea also fits the darker side of Marvel Comics, where magic and manipulation can make a hero’s personal attachments into dangerous vulnerabilities. Villains like the Red Skull have repeatedly targeted Captain America’s ideals and emotional connections.

Marvel’s comic-book history also includes reality manipulation, false memories, and illusions designed to break heroes psychologically rather than defeat them physically. Although this specific Peggy Carter storyline is not established in comic-book canon, those themes would fit naturally into a multiverse-scale Avengers story.

If a witch really does impersonate Peggy, the most painful part may not be the deception itself. It could be the moment Steve realizes that the face he still associates with home has become something he must fight. For a hero who has already sacrificed so much, that would be an extraordinarily personal battle.
