The Sentinels have always been one of the X-Men‘s most terrifying foes, but ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ may go in an altogether more sinister direction. Fox’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ showed just how terrifying these machines could become when they were designed to adapt to mutant abilities.
Those Sentinels weren’t simply giant robots with weapons. They could analyze mutant powers and change their own abilities to counter them. It was very hard to fight them. Even the most powerful of the X-Men might have been defeated if the machines knew what they were capable of. Now imagine that same concept being expanded beyond mutants.
Doom Could Turn Sentinels Against Every Hero
The one thing that’s been quite interesting about the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ rumors is the fact that Doctor Doom is rumored to be leading an army of Sentinels. If these machines have some sort of adaptive technology, then the Avengers may be heading into a nightmare.

Consider what this means. Captain America could attack one Sentinel with his shield, only for another machine to learn from the encounter. A mutant could unleash a devastating power, giving the machines valuable information about how to counter it. Now, numbers wouldn’t be the only issue. The scary thing is that every failed attack may make Doom’s army stronger.
Marvel Could Transform The Sentinels Into Doom’s Ultimate Weapon
This is where the Sentinels could be different from the Fox version. They were mainly used by Fox as mutant hunters. They could be turned into an army that hunts superheroes in ‘Doomsday’. The Avengers have been used to battling foes that have weaknesses that can be identified.

Even the most formidable of villains can be studied, attacked, and ultimately defeated. An adaptive army alters that. The heroes could essentially be teaching their enemy how to beat them every time they fight back.
It would also be a good fit for Doctor Doom. Doom isn’t frightening simply because he is powerful. His greatest weapon has always been his intelligence and his ability to exploit the weaknesses of others.
With that intelligence and advanced Sentinel technology, he could create an army that not only follows orders, but learns. If Avengers: Doomsday actually pits the X-Men, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four into the same conflict, making the Sentinels a threat to all of them would be a genuinely exciting escalation.
