‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ may be the ideal chance for Marvel to reshape more than just its story. Asgard is one of the biggest things that Marvel could bring back if the film is indeed a soft reboot for the MCU. Since ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, Asgard has essentially become New Asgard in Norway, a settlement populated by surviving Asgardians.
It works for the story, but it also makes Thor’s world feel considerably smaller. The comics depict Asgard as something far greater: a mythical cosmic universe teeming with gods, magic, kingdoms and ancient history. ‘Secret Wars’ was the end of that, but Marvel was finally able to return to that scale.
Why Phase 7 Needs To Bring The Real Asgard Back To MCU
Phase 7 may be quite busy, as the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers and other street-level heroes may all be in the same reality. This is why it’s becoming more and more vital to give Thor his own corner of the MCU. A restored Asgard might offer just that.

Rather than Thor being constantly moving between Earth and space, Marvel could set up Asgard as the MCU’s mythological version of the worlds of the Fantastic Four and other space-based characters.
It would also enable Thor to have more natural interactions with characters like the Silver Surfer, and keep his stories grounded in mythology. And honestly, Thor standing in front of an enormous golden Asgardian kingdom again would simply look incredible.
‘Secret Wars’ May Change The Course Of Asgard’s History
After Battleworld, the multiversal reconstruction might offer a simple answer to the question of why Asgard is back. Marvel doesn’t have to wipe away New Asgard; it could create a new reality where Asgard was never destroyed by Hela to begin with.

That might also address an upcoming recasting issue. When Marvel does bring back a younger Thor, a post ‘Secret Wars’ continuity might make the transition smoother, instead of the new actor having to pick up decades of established history.
The other intriguing thing is that the Thor Corps may be making an appearance in ‘Secret Wars’ according to leaks. If Marvel does that, it will prove that the studio is willing to accept the other, bigger side of Thor’s mythology.
The MCU doesn’t have to give up on New Asgard. But after ‘Secret Wars’, Thor deserves something bigger. A realm of gods. Ancient magic. Massive kingdoms. Cosmic mythology. Thor deserves Asgard to feel like Asgard again.
