Doctor Doom was not the direction the Multiverse Saga was going. For a long time, Marvel seemed to be preparing for one central villain: Kang the Conqueror. And in doing so, it might be possible that the MCU didn’t throw away the whole Kang Dynasty buildup.
Marvel Had Already Built The Kang Story
Kang was introduced in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘ and, more significantly, it was revealed that there were many other variants of Kang. The Council of Kangs immediately suggested that Marvel was preparing something much bigger than a single villain.

Loki then added to the mythology. He Who Remains explained the Multiversal War, while Season 2 introduced Victor Timely and reinforced the idea that Kang wasn’t simply one man. He was a recurring threat spread across different timelines and realities.
Marvel had already planted seeds involving Kang’s comic-book identities, the Council of Kangs, time travel and the Fantastic Four. Put together, the path seemed obvious: Kang to Council of Kangs to Multiversal War to Kang Dynasty and then to Secret Wars. It was an exciting direction.
The Kang Story Marvel Scrapped May Still Explain ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
In 2022, Marvel revealed both ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. However, with Jonathan Majors’ legal issues, the studio eventually departed from Kang and replaced The Kang Dynasty with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. That’s where the fun begins.

There have been a lot of rumors about the cancelled Kang Dynasty story, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are Marvel scripts or canon. Still, the bigger question remains: how much of the original plan survived?
Maybe Doom was always meant to be the last threat of the Multiverse Saga. Maybe Kang would have ripped the multiverse apart, but Doom took advantage of the chaos and took over before Secret Wars. If that’s what happened, Marvel didn’t necessarily throw away its destination. It just changed the road.
And fans can’t help but wonder how much of ‘Doomsday’ still carries the DNA of a movie that was originally supposed to be Kang Dynasty. That behind-the-scenes transformation might be one of the most fascinating stories in the MCU.
