‘Black Panther: Eyes Of Wakanda’ Likely To Feature Female Iron Fist, Boost Representation

Marvel Studios‘ upcoming Black Panther animated series ‘Black Panther: Eyes of Wakanda‘ is set to expand the world of Wakanda by exploring its history and connections to other secret cities. At D23, hints were given that one of these secret cities connected to Wakanda would be inhabited by a figure known as the Iron Fist.

While the specific Iron Fist hasn’t been confirmed, new reports indicate it will be a female version of the character. ‘Eyes of Wakanda‘ is hoping to bridge gaps in the MCU timeline by showing unseen periods of Wakandan history and folklore. This approach allows connections to be built with another corner of the universe still unexplored on screen.

It has been six years since Iron Fist last appeared on screen, playing a major role in the Marvel and Netflix partnership shows. The introduction of a new Iron Fist for ‘Eyes of Wakanda‘ addresses this absence and fans are clearly excited.

This new version also allows flexibility to tell a fresh story that can tie into future Black Panther projects. As the mantle has been held by multiple individuals in the comics, introducing a female Iron Fist opens up new narrative potentials compared to simply reusing Danny Rand post-Netflix.

Her inclusion in Wakandan history provides an opportunity to seed this updated take on the character within the wider universe.

Introducing MCU’s first female Iron Fist is also a great step towards representation within the franchise. In recent years, Marvel Studios has made significant strides in featuring more diverse leads and supporting characters. Rather than being a superficial change, introducing the Iron Fist mantle’s new female inheritor could allow exploration of powerful female-led stories and perspectives set within the Black Panther narrative.

If positively received, she may become an important figure to help diversify the faces of the broader MCU going forward into Phase Seven and beyond.

While details about Iron Fist are still emerging, her inclusion has the potential to continue the diversity growth seen across Marvel’s film and television output in recent years. It also provides an opportunity to bring Iron Fist’s character back into the universe after years of absence following the Netflix shows.
