‘Deadpool And Wolverine’s Scarlet Witch Easter Egg Wasn’t What It Looked Like

A Scarlet Witch reference in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘ sparked a lot of excitement among Marvel fans. It further fueled a lot of theories about her return to the MCU. The Deadpool trilogy’s meta nature has always allowed it to pack in Easter eggs and references in a way other Marvel movies can’t.

Moreover, ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, took this to new heights with jaw-dropping cameos and cleverly hidden nods to past films. Among these, one of the most intriguing moments was in the Void, where Deadpool and Wolverine encounter a team of familiar faces.

The Real Story Behind Wanda’s Ceiling Statue In ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’

In Elektra, Blade, Gambit, and X-23’s hideout in the Void, there were countless relics from across the multiverse. However, the most eye-catching piece is the colossal statue of Wanda Maximoff cast onto the ceiling. Fans quickly speculated that this Easter egg was a deliberate hint at Wanda’s MCU return.

Unfortunately, the explanation offered in ‘Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine’ suggests otherwise. Production designer Raymond Chan revealed that the inclusion of the Scarlet Witch statue was more about fan service than narrative setup.

Chan explained that he was tasked with cramming the hideout with as many Easter eggs as possible. This was done to pay homage to iconic MCU moments. The statue of Wanda was inspired by the massive 24-foot Mount Wundagore monument from ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.

However, it wasn’t meant to single her out. Wanda’s statue is part of a collective tribute rather than a focused hint. Fans had hoped this reference meant Marvel was teasing Wanda’s return, but the context dilutes that theory.

Scarlet Witch’s Return Is Still Very Much Possible

Even if this Easter egg isn’t a definitive clue, Scarlet Witch’s return to the MCU isn’t entirely off the table. While fans hoped for ‘Agatha All Along‘ to reintroduce Wanda, it didn’t happen. However, the MCU’s multiverse concept leaves the door wide open. No, the character is truly gone.

Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Witch, has expressed her love for the character several times. Now, she is confirmed to voice Scarlet Witch in the animated ‘Marvel Zombies’ series on Disney+. Moreover, her recent comments hint at potential future appearances.

Speaking at a fan Q&A, Olsen teased that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige often incorporates actors’ ideas into the MCU. So, she wasn’t going to share hers, further adding, “I just want to come back.” Moreover, this remark has further fueled speculation that Wanda’s story isn’t over.
