If the speculations about ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ are any indication, Marvel is about to throw something much more brutal than a typical superhero action-packed movie.
For years, the Multiverse Saga has been bringing alternate realities, legacy characters, and much more to the MCU than what it had in the Infinity Saga. But that scale also presents a problem: at some point, Marvel will have to close some doors. That’s where ‘Doomsday’ can be deadly.
Some Of The Heroes May Not Make It Out Of The Multiverse Saga
There have been several leaks about some major characters having harsh deaths. Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Wolverine have both been linked to possible deaths early in the story. Loki, meanwhile, has reportedly been rumored to suffer an especially horrifying fate at the hands of Doctor Doom, with Doom killing him to obtain his powers.

Other rumored moments are just as heartbreaking. Steve Rogers might see his son, James Rogers, die in front of him. Thor might lose his arm in the battle with Doom, and Bucky Barnes may sacrifice himself to save Pepper Potts and Morgan Stark. And honestly, that’s what makes ‘Doomsday’ feel different.
‘Doomsday’ Marks The End Of A Marvel Era
The movie doesn’t necessarily need to kill every major character to feel like an ending. The bigger idea is that Marvel may be preparing audiences for a fundamental change. The Multiverse Saga has brought together characters and universes that normally could never coexist.

‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ will be the two events set to reach their culmination with that sprawling tale. But this could lead to a new status quo. And that means that some characters will have to go somewhere. That may hurt more for some fans than any CGI battle.
Seeing a character you’ve followed for years make one final sacrifice can carry more emotional weight than watching another city explode. Doctor Doom’s greatest weapon may therefore not be his armor or his power. It may be the fact that he can force Marvel’s heroes, and the audience, to say goodbye.
If ‘Doomsday’ really becomes the closing chapter for parts of the MCU we know, Marvel won’t just be asking whether its heroes can defeat Doom. It will be asking who deserves to survive what comes next.
