The Marvel Cinematic Universe, after ruling the comic-book movie genre, is going through a rough patch. With the MCU currently on the back foot, the President Of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige is comfortable with the franchise’s current position.
The movies and TV shows are lately not getting a good reception and are denting the franchise’s legacy. The quantity of the projects has definitely gone up however, fans can’t say about the quality.
Kevin Feige Is Comfortable With The MCU Being The Underdog Again
In an exclusive interview with the Empire, Kevin Feige discusses the current state of the MCU. He is well aware of the MCU being in its worst condition after the launch of the franchise in 2000. However, Feige is seeing things with a “glass half full” mentality.
Feige said, “It’s nice to be able to rally behind one feature project this year. I’m much more comfortable being the underdog. I prefer being able to surprise, and exceed expectations. So it does seem like the last year, which has not been ideal, has set us up well for that.”
The Co-President of Marvel Studios Louis D’Esposito also gave a similar statement to Kevin Feige on the MCU. He said, “If we just stayed on top, that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. We took a little hit, we’re coming back strong.”
He further also talked about how the increased output of the MCU project has harmed them. He conceded, “Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit. We’re not going to do that anymore. We learned our lesson. Maybe two to three films a year and one or two shows, as opposed to doing four films and four shows.”
The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger has already revealed that they are cutting down on the MCU projects released per year. He said Marvel won’t release more than 2 to 3 movies and 2 TV shows per year. The company wants to focus more on the quality of content rather than the quantity which is great for the franchise and its fans.
