In a tale as old as time (or at least as old as 2005), Chris Evans, our favorite superhero chameleon, hinted at a fiery comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But this time, he’s not eyeing Captain America’s shield, he’s got his sights set on Johnny Storm’s flames.
Did you know that our beloved Cap was a superhero even before he went under the knife? Guess the ‘Save the World’ motto is embedded in our favorite Avenger. The 42-year-old actor is quite fond of his early acting gig, as he’s been pretty vocal about his desire to return as the superhero. It’s just the superhero in question is not Captain America.
Chris Evans On Coming Back As Johnny Storm
Back in the mid-2000s, Evans lit up the screen (quite literally) as the dashing Human Torch in 20th Century Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four’. Despite the lukewarm reception of the films by the critics, they did pretty well at the box office. Chris’s portrayal of the hotheaded hero garnered the franchise a dedicated fanbase at the time.
While many have been begging Evans to put on Cap’s iconic suit once more, he’s been playing hard to get. But that doesn’t hint at his retirement from the superhero tag as during a chat with MTV News back in 2022 the ‘Ghosted’ star reminded us all of his days as a hot man before he signed up for Abraham Erskine’s super soldier project.
Evans said, “That was 15, almost 20 years ago. But I really love that character… I mean, I guess all bets are off. Look, I would love it. I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. You know what I mean?”
He continued, “Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and, you know, who knows.”

MCU’S Fantastic Four
Given the MCU’s history of character comebacks, the idea of anticipating Captain America’s return is not entirely absurd. Now that the multiverse is in motion who knows where we might pluck our next cap from? But a more realistic bet is to make Chris Evan return as Johnny Storm. Chris loves the character, and fans love him, what more does Kevin Feige need?
While the exact details of Johnny Storm’s return remain shrouded in mystery, Marvel’s grand stage offers countless possibilities. So far we know that Joseph Quinn is set to grace the silver screen as the MCU’s Johnny Storm in the 2025 ‘Fantastic Four’. The next we can expect Chris Evans in the superhero world is not 2027’s ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ let’s see what suit he wears next.
