Earlier this year, Marvel along with many production houses hit a hiatus because of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. Marvel projects including ‘Deadpool 3’, ‘Fantastic Four’, ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ are now being delayed leaving the fans frustrated and on a Marvel dry spell. Unless the strike is resolved, Phase Five and Six will be delayed, tanking the finances of the MCU.
Pushed a year behind, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘ was initially scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026, but now it has been pushed to May 7, 2027. Avengers 6 will most probably wrap up the Multiverse saga, that was introduced in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. However, Marvel has finally chosen their director for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

Who Will Direct Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’?
After delivering a visually pleasing ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’, Sam Raimi is now being considered to direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Raimi is reportedly the top choice to helm the project. Apparently, this will be the first time an Avengers movie will not be directed by the same filmmaker as its previous installment. Since Marvel has removed writers like Jeff Loveness and Micheal Waldron from their respective projects, the production house has also reeled in ‘Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton to take over ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’.

Highlighting his previous directional works, Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy and ‘Docter Strange‘ sequel, Sam Raimi seems like a good choice. His superhero projects have always revolved around character-driven stories about the central hero. But signing with Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will be the director’s biggest superhero endeavor yet in terms of scope and scale. Also, Raimi’s involvement in the project might hint at Doctor Strange’s appearance in the ‘Secret Wars’ as its central theme revolves around the Multiverse.

Possible Cast Of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’
As Kang has been established as the biggest threat to the universe taking over Thanos from Phase Five, it is obvious that Jonathan Majors will reprise the role of the Universal baddie. However, due to the current controversy involving the actor, it is still unclear if Marvel wants to go ahead with the Majors playing the iconic villain in the upcoming projects. Although appears as Victor Timely in ‘Loki’ season two, Majors might still have a slightly thicker chance to re-establish his future at Marvel.
A recent report suggested that Andrew Garfield was one of the actors that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had approached prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Adding on to that, after his cameo appearance in ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’, the rumors of Garfield suiting up have already begun to circulate like wildfire.
Apart from him, ‘Secret Wars’ might also bring the iconic and fan favorite Wolverine. Hugh Jackman may have also met with Feige to discuss Wolverine’s future in the MCU which includes his potential “big role” in ‘Secret Wars’. Jackman is currently set to reprise his hero avatar in ‘Deadpool 3‘, where fans could finally witness the long-awaited team-up between Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ titular anti-hero.
