The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer has already shown us that taking down Doctor Doom is going to be anything but easy. Even Thor’s Stormbreaker appears to be completely useless against him, which immediately raises an important question: if one of the MCU’s most powerful weapons cannot hurt Doom, what possibly can?
There is one weapon fans may be overlooking: the Ebony Blade.
The Ebony Blade Could Be Doom’s Worst Nightmare

The Ebony Blade already exists in the MCU. It was introduced in ‘Eternals’ through Dane Whitman, played by Kit Harington, who was revealed to have a connection to the legendary Black Knight. Unlike most superhero weapons, the Ebony Blade is deeply connected to magic and has a terrifying history.

In the comics, it is capable of cutting through incredibly durable materials and has properties that make it particularly dangerous against magical defenses. That could become extremely important when facing Doctor Doom. Doom isn’t simply another powerful Marvel villain.
He combines extraordinary scientific intelligence with powerful mystical abilities, making conventional attacks potentially useless against him. Stormbreaker may have immense destructive power, but the Ebony Blade operates on an entirely different level. And there is already a fascinating comic-book precedent.
In What If…? #97, an alternate version of the Black Knight used the Ebony Blade to kill Doctor Doom. That doesn’t mean the MCU will directly recreate the story. However, Marvel has an obvious piece of comic history it could pull from if it wants to give Dane Whitman a meaningful role.
Marvel Could Finally Make Black Knight Matter

The biggest question is whether Dane Whitman will actually appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. His story was left hanging after ‘Eternals’, and Marvel has yet to reveal exactly where Black Knight fits into the Multiverse Saga. But imagine the payoff.

After watching Thor’s Stormbreaker fail against Doom, the heroes realize brute force isn’t enough. Then Dane arrives with the Ebony Blade, the one weapon specifically capable of challenging Doom’s combination of technology and magic.
That would instantly make Kit Harington’s Black Knight feel important. Marvel has already introduced the weapon. Now it just needs to give it a reason to be drawn. However, due to its performance, ‘Eternals’ has been sidelined quite a lot. So, this theory might be too good to be true.
