“Don’t Come Back”: Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Advised Hugh Jackman To Not Reprise His Role As Wolverine

Ever since the fans got the X-Men live-action movies, Hugh Jackman has been playing the role of Wolverine. He has been featured in almost every X-Men movie. His character got the proper farewell in 2017’s ‘Logan’.

However, thanks to Marvel Studios and Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman is returning as fans’ beloved X-Men with claws in ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’. It will be his first appearance in over 7 years as Wolverine. However, the President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige revealed that he advised Jackman to keep the claws hanging.

During an interview with Empire Magazine, Kevin Feige talked about his conversation with Hugh Jackman. He said, “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back. You had the greatest ending in history with ‘Logan.’ That’s not something we should undo.'”

Empire later asked if it would be a different Wolverine from what fans have seen in the previous movies. Kevin Feige affirmed that and said, “Correct.” Hugh Jackman also believed that they needed another take on the character.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, he said, “I was about an hour into the drive and that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it. I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan, and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in.’”

Feige was not the only one skeptical of Jackman returning as Logan. A section of comic book fans also believed that Hugh Jackman should let his Wolverine rest. However, seeing Hugh Jackman in the iconic yellow suit for the first time has satisfied many of them.

Even though Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine for more than 2 decades, fans never saw him in his suit from the comic. In the ‘X-Men’ movies, Jackman’s Wolverine and other X-Men rocked a black leather team suit.

In the 2000’s ‘X-Men’ Logan asks Cyclops if they actually go outside in these matching suits. Cyclops hilariously says, “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” In 2013’s ‘The Wolverine’, Yukio gives Wolverine comic accurate suit with the cowl.

Fans expected Jackman in this suit but never saw him wearing that. He revealed how he felt after putting on the suit. Jackman said, “We almost did it in ‘The Wolverine‘. But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.”

‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ is set to be the biggest MCU movie of the summer. Fans are very excited to see the duo of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool sharing screen for the first time (not counting ‘Wolverine: Origins’). It will also play a pivotal role in the future of the MCU.
