Dafne Keen reprised her role as X-23 in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘, reuniting with her fellow mutants. While it was thrilling for fans to see X-23 team up with characters like Elektra, and Blade, one cast member in particular gave Keen a challenge, Channing Tatum’s Gambit.
In an interview, Keen opened up about her experience filming scenes alongside Tatum and his take on the Cajun mutant. Keen found Tatum’s committed performance as Gambit hilarious, though it did cause some difficulties on set. The act proved contagious for the actress at times during shots.
Channing Tatum’s Dialect Distracted Dafne Keen
In an interview with Phase Zero CB, Keen said that one of the biggest challenges of filming was keeping a straight face whenever Gambit had a dialogue. She noted that Tatum would deliver his lines so flawlessly that she struggled not to crack a smile. His Cajun accent in particular drew uncontrollable reactions. “I kept breaking character because of the way he said his lines,” Keen said. She even had to explicitly tell the actor “Don’t say your lines” during her takes just to focus.
Keen also recalled one memorable line from Tatum between shots, making her lose it. She giggled as she reenacted asking him, “No, shut up. I need to do my job.” While frustrated in the moment, she appreciated Tatum’s commitment which lifted the mood on set.
