After Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi‘ proved to be a huge hit at the box office, actor Simu Liu recently revealed that he has been catching up on the recent Shang-Chi comics to help influence and potentially foreshadow the direction of the sequel.
The actor is clearly invested in properly adapting the character and wants to draw from current comic storylines. This could give fans clues as to what plotlines and villains may be explored in the inevitable sequel. Here’s what he said.
‘Shang-Chi’ Comics Have Interesting Characters And Concepts
One comic run that Simu Liu specifically mentioned while speaking about his reading interests was the recent one by Gene Luen Yang. This storyline introduced several new characters and concepts that could be brought into the MCU, such as Shang-Chi taking on the role of leader of the Five Weapons Society.
It also featured foes like Defender Izzy Kane and interdimensional sorcerer MacBeth that would make for exciting big-screen villains. Adapting elements from this comic run could also help expand the scope and mythology of the movie franchise.
