With multiple villains, a darker tone, and the emotional consequences of ‘No Way Home’, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ already sounds like a pretty action-packed movie.
However, if a popular fan theory is the case, the film could have something even worse in store for Peter Parker: a villain who has already infiltrated MJ’s life.
A New Theory Could Change Everything For Peter And MJ In ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

While Marvel Studios has introduced a number of villains in its trailers and promotional content, one thing is yet to be clarified. The answer could be lying out in the open. The most emotional moment in the ‘Brand New Day’ footage is MJ moving on with her life after forgetting about Peter Parker.
The trailers reveal her time with a new love interest (Eman Esfandi) as an uncomfortable reminder of all Peter has lost at the end of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. On the surface, the character seems to be a romantic hurdle. However, Marvel fans know better than to believe everything they see in the trailers.
Notably, some villains in the marketing are not identified. In the action scenes, characters like Boomerang and Tarantula are seen, and the actors behind the masks have not yet been officially announced. This has led to speculation that Esfandi’s character might be one of those criminals in disguise.
If it’s true, it would make him instantly more important in the story. He would not just be dating MJ; he would be a direct threat to her and Peter, making it more of a love triangle than just that.
Marvel Has Used Similar Twists Before

The theory also aligns with a trend that has been seen throughout Spider-Man’s history. Some of Peter Parker’s most formidable enemies are close to his daily routine. Norman Osborn isn’t only the Green Goblin, he’s the father of Peter’s best friend.

In ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, the MCU took a similar approach by having Peter find out that his crush Liz’s father was the Vulture. Those twists paid off because they made Spider-Man’s fights emotional as well as physical.
That’s why it makes sense that MJ could fall in love with a villain. It would be another heartbreak for Peter, who is already having to deal with a world that has forgotten him. As of now, the theory is unconfirmed.
However, Marvel has a history of holding big surprises until the last minute. If it’s an “evil boyfriend” turn, it could be one of the most personal battles that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has ever been through.
