Sony’s Spider-Man television universe appears to be heading into one of Marvel Comics’ strangest and most controversial storylines. According to Deadline, Amazon is nearing a series order for a new show based on the Clone Saga, with the story expected to focus on Spider-Man clones Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker.
Ben Reilly And Kaine Could Bring A Very Different Spider-Man Story

The project would come from American Born Chinese creator Kelvin Yu and follow ‘Spider-Noir’, which Prime Video canceled after one season. While Sony and Amazon MGM Studios have not officially commented, the report suggests the new series is already much closer to becoming a reality than some of the other projects being developed under their multi-series deal.
And honestly, choosing the Clone Saga is a pretty wild direction. In the comics, Ben Reilly is one of Peter Parker’s clones who eventually develops his own identity as the Scarlet Spider. Unlike Kaine, who is the first and more physically damaged clone, Ben becomes a more stable and heroic figure.
The Clone Saga famously complicates everything by questioning which Spider-Man is actually the original. At one point, Ben is declared the real Peter Parker while Peter is revealed to supposedly be the clone. The storyline eventually reverses that decision, but the twist remains one of the most controversial moments in Spider-Man history.
The new series may not follow the comics exactly, though. Deadline reports that the adaptation could significantly change the characters’ origins and potentially give Ben and Kaine completely different identities.
Sony Could Turn the Clone Saga Into Its Own Multiverse Story

What’s particularly interesting is that the series doesn’t necessarily have to be a straightforward adaptation. The comics provide the basic ingredients: clones, identity crises, and multiple versions of Spider-Man. But Sony could use those ideas to build something much more distinct for television.

There could also be other clones involved, including Spider-Cide, depending on how closely the show follows the comic storyline. The series would reportedly be part of Sony’s larger television deal with Amazon MGM, with a linear debut on MGM+ followed by a Prime Video release.
Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are expected to executive produce alongside Yu. After ‘Spider-Noir’, Sony’s Spider-Man universe clearly isn’t slowing down. And if this project actually reaches the screen, audiences could soon be asking a very familiar question all over again: Who is the real Spider-Man?
