Top 10 Most Comic-Book Accurate Suits In MCU And DCU

Superhero films have come a long way in translating iconic comic book costumes onto the big screen. In the early days of Comic Book movies, costumes were darker and grittier to cater to the aesthetic of those days.

However, as comic book movies have gotten more mainstream, studios have embraced the source material through lore-accurate characterization. Both Marvel and DC have introduced many costumes that pay homage to their comic book counterparts faithfully. Here are 10 of the most comic-accurate suits seen in modern MCU and DCU movies.

Wanda Maximoff’s costume during the Halloween episode of 2021’s MCU Disney+ show ‘WandaVision‘ paid direct homage to the Scarlet Witch’s comic counterpart.

The crimson red and flowing skirt with the cape and complete with the headdress was a nice homage to the character’s print roots.

Chris Evans‘ introduction of Steve Rogers in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘ delivered a World War Two era variation that stayed authentic to the star-spangled look in the comics.

Everything from the colors, symbols, and the design and shape of the shield was every bit straight out of a comic book page. Although this put out a very vintage and dated concept in his first outing as Captain America, it still remains a fan favorite to this day.

    8. Aquaman

Batman has had a lot of iterations in the past, and that has come along with a lot of suits. Some of them are controversial, especially the George Clooney one. But Ben Affleck delivered a dead-on adaptation of The Dark Knight from Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns‘ graphic novel with an inspired Batsuit in 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

Featuring battle-worn padded armor, a cowl and a big and bold bat logo, the grizzled and rough look established a new realistic take while still honoring the source material.

    6. Spider-Man

Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man has already been a front and foremost part of the MCU, after appearing 6 times already since his introduction in 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. In all these 6 appearances, Peter Parker has had several upgrades and looks on-screen.

Although many of these have been heavily criticized by fans, one suit stands out and that is the one the fans have seen the least but have caught their interest. The suit donned by Spider-Man in the closing scene of ‘Spiderman: No Way Home‘, has garnered quite a fanbase due to its similarities with Steve Ditko’s version of it dating back to the 60s.

    5. Wonder Woman

Diana Prince’s first appearance came in 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘. She donned a washed-out bronze armor for a brief moment in the movie.

A year later, her standalone movie ‘Wonder Woman‘ came out with a slightly tweaked but colorful armor. The armor with the Lasso of Truth and the Sword of Athena very well drew inspiration from the comics and stayed true to it.

The Master of the Mystic Arts and The Sorcerer Supreme brings the color scheme, his iconic cape and the undistinguishable goatee from the comics alive with his portrayal on screen.

The purple tint, raised necklace collar and fabric accents like his boots and gloves make the costume an identical replica that appreciates both style and realism.

The very first MCU movie introduced to the audiences to Tony Stark and his self-made suit of armor which was created in a cave. The Iron Man Mark One is where the MCU was birthed and the inspiration for the rest of the suits that follow in the franchise.

The Mark One perfectly replicates its comic counterpart and paves the way for all the suits that Tony Stark invents later on in the franchise, quite literally sparking something new.
