“We’re Gonna Be In A Movie Together”: Lewis Pullman Reveals Danny Ramirez Convinced Him To Take On Role In MCU’s ‘Thunderbolts’

Marvel’s newest star Lewis Pullman has revealed how he decided to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of the upcoming ‘Thunderbolts‘ movie. In an interview, Pullman explained that an advice from his ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ co-star Danny Ramirez played a big role in his decision to take on the mysterious role.

Pullman was offered the part after Steven Yeun departed the project due to scheduling conflicts brought about by production delays. Here’s what Pullman thought when he first got the offer and how Ramirez influenced his decision.

When Lewis Pullman got the offer to act in the Marvel film, Lewis Pullman was living with Danny Ramirez in New York, which meant he could get a first-hand perspective from someone already in the MCU. “I remember I knocked on his door,” Pullman said during the interview.

“I was like, ‘Dude…’ And he was immediately in his excitable demeanor: He was like, ‘Dude, you gotta do it! Then we’re gonna be in a movie together! We’re gonna be fighting each other or maybe fighting other people together,” he added.

Ramirez had joined the Marvel universe the previous year in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘, playing Joaquin Torres. His character positioned him to take on the mantle of Falcon in future projects. “Anything’s possible in the MCU,” Pullman recalled Ramirez telling him enthusiastically.

After playing a mild-mannered pilot in ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘, Lewis Pullman was keen to show a different side of his acting abilities. In an interview with Inverse, Pullman said, “I was so lucky to get a role like Bob.”

But I was very aware that, with a movie like that, it’s pretty easy to get caught in a groove or something of a ‘type.’. It also became a definite challenge myself to try and push myself,” he said.

The unpredictable, complex nature of Marvel roles appealed to Pullman’s desire to break out of any box. Portraying Sentry in ‘Thunderbolts‘ is sure to allow Pullman to flex new acting muscles.

Moreover, Pullman will next be seen in the offbeat thriller ‘Skincare‘, where he plays the “life coach” Jordan opposite Elizabeth Banks. Of the bizarre role, Pullman said “When I read [the script], I was like, ‘God, I don’t know… I’ve never done anything like it…’ But it’s also like, ‘Who’s ever going to give me the chance to do something like this?’”

Thanks to his co-star and roommates encouragement, Pullman now seems eager to take on more unpredictable projects that will allow him to constantly challenge himself as an actor. ‘Thunderbolts‘ and beyond, big changes are coming for Lewis Pullman’s career.
