The summer of 2023 left an indelible cinematic mark in people’s minds. Theaters ran full due to one of the most memorable box-office clashes of our time. Christopher Nolan released his nuclear drama ‘Oppenheimer’ the same day as Greta Gerwig’s satirical feminist comedy ‘Barbie.’ Both films fared well at the box office, but the latter emerged as the winner in the Barbeheimer race.
The Margot Robbie-starrer ‘Barbie’ received mild reviews, but the fans thronged the cinema halls, donning their best pink outfits. But the audience is deeply connected to this feminist drama, which is attached to the nostalgia of the Mattel doll universe. The film smashed many box office records, including the record for earning $1 billion in just 17 days. Now, the film has broken another record by defeating Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ in the race to become one of the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time.

The ‘Barbie’ phenomenon is still alive, and it is unstoppable! People are still going to cinema halls to watch the Greta Gerwig feature. It is the story of a utopian ‘Barbie Land’, where women are leading and men are getting subordinate treatment.
But things change when Barbie and Ken visit the real world, and Ken demands that they take on responsibilities like real world men. The mania begins when the Barbies try to reclaim their status.
In just 17 days, ‘Barbie’ collected $459 million at the domestic box office and $572 million internationally. And now, the film has toppled 2012’s ‘The Avengers’ to become the 11th highest-grossing film of all time in the US.
‘Barbie’ has earned $626 million at the US box office, dethroning ‘The Avengers’, which collected $623 million. To enter the top 10 race, ‘Barbie’ has to surpass the collection of ‘Jurassic Park’, which collected $653 million.

After the humongous success of ‘Barbie’, IMAX tied up with Warner Bros. to give it an exclusive release in North America and other international territories.
In a statement, director Greta Gerwig said that the IMAX release will have exclusive extra footage for fans. She said, “We made ‘Barbie’ for the big screen, so it’s a thrill to be able to bring it to Imax, the biggest screen of all. As a special thanks to ‘Barbie’ fans, we’re excited to share a little bit more of our cast and crew’s incredible work by adding special new footage we hope audiences will enjoy.”
