‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2‘, although a tear-jerker film made a surprising and unexpected revelation about Peter Quill. Apparently, Quill, who appeared to be a regular human also known as Star-Lord, is not who he appears to be. It was revealed that Quill is half celestial since his father Ego is a celestial being.
Peter Quill was initially shown as a regular human who was abducted and raised by Ravager after his mother’s death. But when Quill holds the Power Stone without turning into purple ash, his human side is questioned. As it turns out Ego had an ulterior motive than just a father-son bond. He wanted his legacy to remain alive so that he could carry out his Expansion, which required two Celestial beings for activation. Hence, Ego impregnated women on every planet to sire offspring.

Is Ego Human?
Ego was a Celestial, an immensely powerful and god-like being with little regard for any living being beyond himself. He was born with an immense brain with cosmic abilities, which allowed him to create a planet and a host version of himself, which allowed him to travel far away from his source. He is a living planet that possessed the ability to manipulate matter at a molecular level and also manipulate people.
Ego reveals to Star-Lord his true heritage and the powers he possesses for being a half-Celestial. He then helps Star-Lord to access his abilities as a Celestial which allows him to create objects. Ego later revealed to Quill that he was immortal due to his Celestial DNA and offered to bring him on board with the project he has been working on. But after Gamora and Nebula discovered Ego’s secret in the caves of his planet, the father-son bond went downhill. After Ego’s daughter Mantis reveals Ego’s weakness, the Guardians of the Galaxy attack Ego’s brain which is placed in the core of the planet.

What Happens to Star-Lord’s Powers after Ego’s Demise?
Star-lord inherits immortality from his father, Ego who is a Celestial. During the father-son bond, Ego tapped into Star-Lord’s dormant Celestial powers and trained him how to manipulate molecular objects. Although the father-son bond was fake, as Ego only wanted to harness his son’s power for his dynamic plan of Expansion. Star-Lord also has superhuman durability and endurance that he physically withstands the exposure of energy from the Infinity Stone. He also held on to the Power stone without bursting into million pieces.
In the middle of the battle, Ego reveals that as long as his essence is still alive, Star-Lord will never die, unless killed by an exterior force like Thanos’ snap. But despite that, Star-Lord decided to kill his father and made peace with his powers of immortality stripping off which he newly discovered. The release of the Guardians and Galaxies’ third installment, this year will start off with an emotional kick and will focus on Peter Quill’s character arc instead of the multiverse.
