Colleen Hoover still wants Lily Bloom’s story to continue on the big screen. The future of an ‘It Ends With Us‘ sequel became unclear after the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
But Hoover has now revealed that she would be happy to see It Starts With Us turned into a movie.
Colleen Hoover Is Ready For An ‘It Starts With Us’ Movie
‘It Starts With Us‘ came out in 2022 and continues the story of Hoover’s 2016 book ‘It Ends With Us‘. The sequel sees Lily move on from Ryle and explore her relationship with Atlas. Blake Lively played Lily in the 2024 movie, while Justin Baldoni played Ryle and Brandon Sklenar played Atlas.

The first movie did very well at the box office and made $351 million. Still, another movie has not moved forward. Baldoni, who also directed ‘It Ends With Us‘, owns the film rights to It Starts With Us. His legal battle with Lively then left the sequel stuck in an uncertain place.
Hoover cannot decide whether the movie gets made because she does not own those rights. However, she would love to see it happen. “I mean, I don’t own the rights to the film sequel,” she told Variety. “So, if they decide to make another one, I’m all for it!”.
Hoover Is Still Proud Of ‘It Ends With Us’
Hoover is currently promoting Verity, another movie based on one of her books. The upcoming adaptation stars Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. While talking about the new project, Hoover also looked back at everything that happened around ‘It Ends With Us‘.

“I feel for everyone, you know? As the author, I was — and am — so proud of that movie,” Hoover said. “I think they did a great job. I think Blake was great in it, Justin was great in it, Brandon was great in it, and I saw the completed film before any of that happened, or I knew it was happening, so I was proud of the film! And I still am. It was a huge hit. So, that’s what I focus on, and I’m grateful that we’re here doing another one [with Verity].”
Talk about a sequel that had already started back in August 2024. At the time, rumors about problems between Lively and Baldoni were also making headlines. When Entertainment Tonight asked Baldoni if he would direct ‘It Starts With Us‘, he replied, “I think there are better people for that one. I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct. That’s what I think.”
For now, there is no confirmed ‘It Starts With Us‘ movie, but Hoover is clearly ready for one if the project ever moves ahead.
