Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have settled their legal fight over the 2024 movie ‘It Ends With Us‘. The deal came as a surprise and brought a sudden end to one of Hollywood’s ugliest public disputes.
The agreement was announced on May 4, 2026, just two weeks before a federal trial was set to start on May 18 in New York.
What We Know About Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s Settlement

The two sides released a joint statement through their lawyers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the statement said, “The end product – the movie It Ends With Us – is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors – and all survivors – is a goal that we stand behind.“

The statement continued, “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard. We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”
The terms of the settlement are not yet known. The deal involves Lively’s claims against Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, and some PR companies. It does not involve Baldoni personally because of earlier court rulings.
Background of ‘It Ends With Us’ Lawsuit

The trouble started while making ‘It Ends With Us‘. The movie is based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling book about domestic violence. Lively played Lily Bloom, and Baldoni starred and directed the project. However, things worsened when Lively raised concerns about on-set behavior.

In December 2024, she filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department claiming sexual harassment by Baldoni. She then filed a federal lawsuit accusing him, Wayfarer Studios, and others of creating a hostile work environment, retaliation, and running a smear campaign to hurt her reputation after she spoke up.
Court papers and a New York Times investigation showed text messages from Baldoni’s crisis PR team discussing ways to take down Lively. One publicist reportedly said they could “bury anyone.” Baldoni denied everything and filed a $400 million defamation countersuit. He claimed Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, took over the project and tried to destroy his career. That lawsuit was dismissed. Most of Lively’s claims were also dismissed in an April 2026 ruling by US District Judge Lewis J. Liman.
After the judge dismissed most of her case, she posted on Instagram, “The last thing I wanted in my life was a lawsuit, but I brought this case because of the pervasive RETALIATION I faced… I hope the Court’s decision shows others that… you can speak up.”
Why Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Chose to Settle the Lawsuit

Legal experts said the settlement made sense because the case had been narrowed down and a trial would have been risky for both sides’ reputations. One former federal prosecutor told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s not worth going to trial… There isn’t enough meat on the bone.” Everyone involved, including Reynolds and the publicists, faced intense public scrutiny throughout the process.
The resolution closes a messy chapter that kept audiences and Hollywood insiders hooked. It shifts the focus back to the movie’s main message about domestic violence, but many details remain unresolved. As the joint statement suggested, both sides just want to move on, with calls for safer workplaces and more respectful conversations.
