The summer of 2023 brought back the old charm of big-screen celluloid films and rejuvenated the box office with ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. Greta Gerwig’s directorial etched history by creating a record for entering the $1 billion club in just 17 days. The film explored how gender roles in the real world spill into Barbie Land, creating havoc with the Barbies trying to bring back the utopian world.
Recently, Dan Levy, who shot to fame playing David Rose in ‘Schitt’s Creek’, debuted his first feature film titled ‘Good Grief’ on Netflix. It is the story of a man losing his husband after an accident, making him go to find some dark truths about his partner in Paris with his friends, unraveling the layers of grief and pain. During an interview, Levy revealed that he was approached about playing Allan.
Dan Levy Was Supposed To Play Michael Cera’s Allan In ‘Barbie’
There were many peculiar characteristics that ‘Barbie’ had. The inter-generational women standing up for each other was America Ferrera’s monologue, but one of the most interesting characters in the film was that of Allan.
In the Mattle world, Allan was introduced as the better half of Midge in the ‘Happy Family’ collection of Barbie. While the two were discontinued, Greta Gerwig revived the character by making him one of Ken’s friends who are closer to the Barbies. Michael Cera seamlessly played the character, but it was ‘Schitt’s Creek’ star Dan Levy who was to play the character.
During an interview with USA Today, Dan Levy revealed that he was to play Allan in the Margot Robbie-starrer ‘Barbie’. He said, “I was up for Allan. Love Michael Cera, so very happy for him. It was just also a wonderful audition process, too, because I didn’t know anything about the movie and I got (a little bit of) the script and had to figure out what exactly was going on.”
Dan continued, “You’ve seen the movie: Just getting two pages of that script, you look at it and think, “Yeah, I don’t know how to play this, but I guess I’ll make a choice and just go with that.”

Is ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Getting A Reboot?
One of the most beloved shows that took the audience by surprise with its rich-to-rags-to-rich trope and interesting characters, ‘Schitt’s Creek’, was the buzz during the 2020 awards season. Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy, and Dan Levy won big during the Primetime Emmys.
While the show ended with a behind-the-scenes documentary titled ‘Best Wishes, Warmest Regards’, there is hope of the Roses coming back to tickle our funny bones.
Andrew Barnsley, one of the producers on ‘Schitt’s Creek’, told The Messenger about the reboot. He said, “It’s something that we know there’s a demand and interest for. It’s something that I know Dan and Eugene Levy are considering all the time, and I think it’s going to be a timing thing.”
