‘Twisters‘ is the long-awaited sequel of the 1996 hit movie ‘Tornado Disaster’ starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. The movie was based on a meteorologist named Dr. Jo Harding, played by Hunt who has been obsessed with tornadoes since childhood as her father died in a F5 tornado.
People feel that no one can match the first movie and the sequel will always be lower than the first part. But ‘Twisters’ star Daisy Edgar-Jones notes the unique differences between both films and tells how the new one differs from the older version.
Daisy Edgar-Jones Explains How New Movie Differs From Original ‘Twisters’
In an interview with Variety, the actress Daisy Edgar-Jones discussed how ‘Twisters’ compares to the standalone 1996 movie. She said, “It feels like a real next chapter, whilst also having so much love for the original. We have Dorothy [the weather sensor device from the first film].”
Edgar-Jones told Variety, “We have moments and costumes that are mirrored from the original.” The star also noticed that the original crew from the 1996 movie is also involved in the new upcoming movie which makes it more special. She said, “A large number of the visual effects guys.”
Edgar-Jones explained, “Twisters is a film set now, in 2024. “It’s what chasing’s like now that we have YouTube chasers, we have new technology, we have better CGI.”
Daisy Edgar-Jones Reveals Storms Appeared While Filming The Movie
Surprisingly, the movie is shot in Oklahoma where storms happen frequently. Edgar told Variety, “One day, we were filming this scene where a tornado rips through a farmers market, and they made this amazing set full of these stalls. And this crazy windstorm came in and took the entire set out”.
She added, “We were hunkered down in the shops nearby, watching the whole set be destroyed, only for us to then film it being destroyed 20 minutes later when they set it back up again.”
Edgar-Jones also noted that when she and Glen Powell were filming a scene that included looking at a distant ‘mothership’—also known as a mesocyclone cloud- when a real massive cloud started to form in real.
Edgar-Jones continued, “We looked like two of the most idiotic storm chasers because we were like, ‘Where is it?’ and it was just there. “We all had to leave and it produced a tornado. Isaac went out chasing and saw it. We weren’t allowed to for insurance reasons.”
‘Twisters’ open in theatres on 19 July.
