    Paul Dano and Seth Rogen’s ‘Dumb Money’ is based on Ben Mezrich‘s bookThe Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees .’ The book chronicles the stock market phenomenon called the GameStop short squeeze. The revolution was led by Keith Gill, a financial analyst and investor known for posting his economic forecast on the subreddit r/wallstreetbets.

    Keith Gill, known to the Reddit community as DeepF***ingValue, went all in on the GameStop stock. Gill experiences exponential growth in followers when the stock blows, building a massive fortune for Gill and his followers. Soon, he becomes the target of hedge funds who try to shut him down.

    Paul Dano plays Keith Gill, who made as much as $50 million. His instincts about the GameStop proved to be dead-on as he managed to pull one over Wall Street. Unfortunately, he had to testify before the US House Financial Services Committee.

    Seth Rogen plays American businessman Gabe Plotkin. He founded the hedge fund Melvin Capital Management in 2014. He lost billions when his firm was caught in the GameStop short squeeze.

    The cast of ‘Dumb Money’ also includes Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, and Shailene Woodley. ‘Dumb Money’ has a US theatrical release date of September 22, 2023.
