The assassin business isn’t going anywhere, but those who are counting on a quick return of Keanu Reeves as the Baba Yaga might have to wait a little longer.
‘John Wick 5’ is in development, but the latest news suggests that this is a long-term project.
Keanu Reeves’ John Wick Comeback Won’t Happen Anytime Soon

Following the heartfelt conclusion of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, which left fans speculating about the future of the legendary assassin, the filmmakers aren’t in a rush to produce a sequel. Rather, they want to get the story right, even if it takes a while. Lionsgate executive Adam Fogelson says there’s now a plan that both Reeves and director Chad Stahelski are excited about.

That’s a huge leap, given that both were reluctant to continue the story following Chapter 4. However, excitement doesn’t mean immediate. “There are a lot of steps, so I wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it. But in terms of finding a core idea, they seem to have landed on something that they are excited about, and now we’ll see,” Fogelson told Business Insider.
The studio isn’t pinning down a release date, and that’s probably a good thing. This is not a series that needs to be rushed; it needs to be crafted, built, and delivered with that poetic action. If they are taking their time, it probably means they are preserving the magic of the original series. There’s also the reality that Stahelski is working on the Highlander reboot, and Reeves has a lot going on. In short, it’s hard to get everyone’s schedules to line up.
The World Of John Wick Is Still Growing

Before John Wick returns to the big screen, the franchise is branching out. A spin-off focused on Caine (played by Donnie Yen) is in development, and Yen will also direct it. This is likely to arrive first, followed by an animated prequel that delves into the assassin world’s past. This is no accident.

Lionsgate is expanding the universe to keep fans happy, while allowing the main sequel to take its time. It also shows faith: Lionsgate believes there’s more to John Wick. However, there’s an emotional appeal too. Resurrecting John after a seemingly final ending is a tricky proposition.
If they botch it, it could undermine the impact of Chapter 4’s ending. If they get it right, however, it could completely transform the character. For now, the message is clear: John Wick will be back, on his own terms. And if this franchise is anything to go by, that will be a good thing.
