The year was 2006, and Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep gave one of the most iconic pieces of guilty-pleasure cinema with ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. It was based on a book by Lauren Weisberger, and Miranda Priestly was loosely based on Vogue’s tour de force, Anna Wintour.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is the coming-of-age story of an aspiring journalist who wants to amp up her life by becoming Miranda’s assistant; however, that path helps her find the right one. While the film has inspired many quotes, memes, and TikToks, Callum Turner sobbed while watching the film. The actor will be seen in the upcoming World War II drama titled ‘Masters of Air’. Callum Turner Found The Last Scene Emotional In ‘The Devil Wears Prada’
Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep-starrer ‘The Devil’s Wear Prada’ was a look into the work culture that exists in the fashion industry. But it was not a superficial look at it. It was from Andy’s point of view, an outside look at the workings of Miranda Priestly. While Andy went along the ride, at the end, she decided to break free from it after the Runway Editor fiasco.
Callum Turner, the actor in the Austin Butler-starrer ‘Masters of the Air’, found the last scene when Meryl Streep looks at Anne Hathaway. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Callum said, “At the very end, when Meryl Streep looks right at Andy and gives her that look, and she accepts Andy for who she is. The Actress’ Casting Was Getting Pushed Back As People Did Not Trust Her As A Comedic Actor
The Devil Wears Prada’ would not have been the same without the charismatic and sassy performance of Meryl Streep. Her role as Miranda Priestly was the epitome of the actress’ versatility. However, the people in the industry could not put their faith in her, as they thought she was not a funny person.
During the ‘Hollywood Gold’ podcast, Wendy Finerman, one of the producers on ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, revealed that they passed over Meryl Streep’s job to someone because people thought she was unfunny.
David Finerman said, “Meryl, people thought we were crazy. I mean, I had people call me up and say, ‘Are you out of your mind? She’s never been funny a day in her life.’” However, he believed in her, citing examples of films like ‘Death Becomes Her’.
He continued, “She has been funny and they were wrong. But this was clearly a different kind of world for her.”
