Osgood Perkins’ 2024 horror thriller movie has been released with great reviews from critics. With a cast featuring stars Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt and others, ‘Longlegs’ has been praised by many.
The story follows an FBI agent as she searches for a serial killer but finds her childhood tangled in the case. Nicholas Cage opens up about his role in the movie which is a very new experience to him. He also revealed how he used his mother as inspiration for his role.
Nicholas Cage On Using His Mother’s Memory As Inspiration
In a first, Nicholas Cage plays the role of an elusive Satanic serial killer in ‘Longlegs’. For his transformation into the character, the makeup crew applied prosthetics and a stark white complexion to alter his appearance. Cage noted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “He has a strange connection to the color white. I don’t really know what it is. He says it’s just a force he’s aware of. You don’t question it too much. He knows it when he sees it.”
But what is the inspiration behind the white makeup? The 60-year-old actor reveals it is a memory of his late mother, Joy Vogelsang. Cage explained, “My mom put on Noxzema cold cream. I was 2 years old, and I opened the bathroom door [to see] what she was doing.” He recalled, “For no reason, she turned her face really fast and stared at me after [putting on] the cold cream. The whiteness of the cold cream just really spooked me.”

Nicholas Cage Talks About His Role In The Movie
When playing such a complicated character, Nicholas Cage found his inspiration in his mother. His mother lived with schizophrenia and severe depression throughout her life until her death. So when the‘Renfield’ star had to play such an eccentric character he looked back to his mother for inspiration.
“I was coming at it from, what exactly was it that drove my mother insane? It was a deeply personal kind of performance for me because I grew up trying to cope with what she was going through,” Cage told Entertainment Weekly. He continued, “She would talk in terms that were kind of poetry. I didn’t know how else to describe it. I tried to put that in the Longlegs character because he’s really a tragic entity.” The ‘Pig‘ star added, “He’s at the mercy of these voices that are talking to him and getting him to do these things.”
