“Nothing’s Happening Right Now”: ‘Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark’ Sequel Hits A Snag As Writers Face Delays

Bad news, horror enthusiasts! It appears that there has been a significant setback for the 2019 follow-up to ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark‘. The director, André Øvredal, claims that things are not proceeding as expected, and so the fans may have to wait for longer than expected for the film to hit their screens.

Over $100 million has been raised globally by ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark‘, leaving us all looking beneath our mattresses. It’s therefore safe to assume that the sequel is inevitable, though not quite so quickly. Even with Øvredal’s return to directing and the early excitement, it appears the project is facing some unanticipated obstacles, as hinted by writer Dan Hageman in a recent interview. Here’s what he said.

Dan Hageman recently told Collider that the film is stalled for now and its fate hangs in uncertainty. “It’s stalled. We actually don’t know,” Hageman said during the interview. “We wrote a draft, Guillermo had a story direction of where to take it… We know a lot of people liked it, but we also know that nothing’s happening right now,” he added.

So it seems that fans who have been anticipating another round of spine-tingling stories from Alvin Schwartz’s renowned children’s novels will be disappointed at least for a while, until further confirmation about the film’s status.

Although the precise cause of the delays is yet unknown, COVID-19, our unwelcome guest, might be a strong contender. It’s crashed more parties than we care to count, and it seems Hollywood isn’t immune to its antics.

But fear not! Director André Øvredal hasn’t thrown in the towel just yet. “We’re still aiming to bring nightmares to life,” he assured optimistically. “Just need to get all our ducks in a row,” he added.

So all the die-hard fans out there itching for updates can hang tight. It looks like it might take a while for the story to progress and for the film to come to fruition, but we’ll get there, if the director is to be believed. In the meantime, fans can relive the original thrills or dive back into those haunting childhood tales.
