Despite a box office clash with Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, ‘Oppenheimer’ opened with glowing reviews and has had a stronghold over the box office. According to the latest report by Box Office Mojo, ‘Oppenheimer’ has earned $412.44 million at the worldwide box office.

‘Oppenheimer’ Becomes Christopher Nolan’s Highest Earning Film
‘Oppenheimer’ has successfully maintained a prestigious position, in the top three for over a month. the film holds the honor of being the highest-grossing R-rated production of the year, prevailing over the earnings of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4‘ which collected around $187 million. Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ has crossed the $700 million mark in global box office earnings, emerging as the fourth highest-grossing film of the year.
With the mentioned total, the film has already become Christopher Nolan’s sixth highest-grosser, even surpassing ‘Batman Begins’ at $373.67 million. ‘Oppenheimer’ has even managed to overshadow the earnings of ‘Fast X’, which managed to collect $704 million, and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ which collected $686 million.

The Historical Drama Is One Of The Highest-Grossing IMAX Movie Ever
Another reason why ‘Oppenheimer’ was hyped was because of Christopher Nolan’s commitment to filming in IMAX and working with Kodak to develop a new technology to shoot the black-and-white sequence. The film earned $146.4 million from IMAX alone, which adds up to 20% of its total worldwide gross, and out of it over $17 million came from just 30 screens which showed 70mm print, the format which Nolan has previously declared as the gold standard of cinema.
Ahead of ‘Oppenheimer,’ there were other films including a James Cameron work in the race for the best IMAX film ever. The competition Cillian Murphy’s headed film faced for this title are from movies like ‘Avatar’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
