In a recent conversation about ‘The Princess Diaries’, Julie Andrews hinted at no possibility of another sequel for the franchise. In an interview with TODAY.com, the 88-year-old actress indicated her reluctance about revisiting the franchise.
“It’s quite a long time now since the two Diaries were done, and I’m not sure, but sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone. I don’t like it when people milk and milk and milk the subject, you know, ’til it’s dead,” she said.
Recalling that the first film of the franchise was released 23 years ago, Andrews admitted to being asked “so many times” about the potential for another sequel. While she asserted that she would “be very happy if we did do another one,” she tempered expectations by stating, “But I don’t expect to.”
The film starred Anne Hathaway in the lead role of Mia Thermopolis. The first part of the film explores her journey of learning that she is the heir to Genovia’s throne. In the 2004 sequel of the film, Mia ascends to the throne.

Anne Hathaway Had Sparkes Hopes For A Third ‘The Princess Diaries’ Film
In a 2019 interview, Hathaway had previously opened up about a script for a third movie during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2019.
“I want to do it. Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it,” Hathaway said at the time.
Despite Hathaway’s optimism, Andrews disclosed that while there had been discussions about the project, nothing concrete had materialized. She asserted that “there was dialogue” about the project but “nothing had been realized.”
“And I think I may be wrong, but I think it’s been shelved now. I can’t be sure,” Andrews added.
