‘The Super Mario Bros‘ movie has become the first video game adaptation to have a fantastic box collection. Produced by Nintendo and Illumination, the film hit the big screen on April 5 and earned more than $204 million at the domestic box office in its first five days of release itself. And now it has earned more than $500 million globally.
‘Super Mario’ has officially become the fifth highest-grossing animated movie at the global box office, behind ‘The Lion King‘, ‘Frozen 2’, ‘Frozen’, and ‘Incredibles 2’. But the film is still on the run and there is a definite probability that it will surpass ‘The Lion King‘ and ‘Frozen 2’, becoming the third highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Box-Office Collection
The movie has been breaking records since the time of its release and now it is eyeing to become the third highest-grossing animated movie of all time. In addition to being the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, Super Mario Bros is also the biggest video game adaptation, the second biggest domestic release in the history of Universal Pictures, and the biggest movie of 2023. The film has grossed $536 million domestically, and another $674 million from overseas markets, for a running global haul of $1.21 billion.
Super Mario Bros has not only entertained the kids, but a wide range of parents and has served as a big-screen entertainer. Although the film received mixed reviews but still managed to set many records. Chris Pratt and Charlie Day voice the plumber brothers Mario and Luigi. It very well is a good year for Chris Patt with Mario Bros breaking records and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3’ labeled as Marvel’s best project to date.

Will There Be A sequel?
The post-credit scene of Super Mario Bros hinted at a sequel to expand the video game-adapted franchise. The credit scene heads the brothers back into Brooklyn underground where Mario and Luigi’s first discovered the pipeworks which led to the Mushroom Kingdom. A familiar object: a Yoshi egg is seen getting hatched. And as the film cuts the Yoshi cry is heard.
Now that Yoshi is let loose in the streets of Brooklyn the Mario brothers are in for an adventure. It might be a setup for the future sequel with Mario, Toad, and Peach tracking down the dinosaur on the run. However, Illumination and Nintendo have big plans for Mario and Luigni’s next adventure, which hopefully might be around Yoshi.
