“It Wasn’t Shocking To Me”: ‘The Acolyte’ Star Manny Jacinto Shades Tom Cruise For Cutting All Of His Lines From ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Favoritism and partiality happen a lot behind the closed doors of Hollywood. And if you belong to a different race, then it’s more difficult for you to survive in such fields. The Acolyte’ star Manny Jacinto faced a similar thing when Tom Cruise cut off his lines from the script.

Jacinto threw shade at Cruise for having his lines cut off from ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘. According to him, the ‘Mission Impossible‘ star is focused on making successful stories for himself in the industry.

Manny Jacinto shared his feelings about getting his lines cut from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ during an interview with GQ. The actor said, “It’s flattering that there was a little bit of an outcry, but it wasn’t shocking to me.” Jacinto is a Filipino-Canadian actor and he feels it may be because of his ethnicity.

He added, “It kind of fuels you, because at the end of the day, Tom Cruise is writing stories for Tom Cruise.” The actor continued, “It’s up to us — Asian Americans, people of color — to be that [for ourselves]. We can’t wait for somebody else to do it. If we want bigger stories out there, we have to make them for ourselves.”

The movie saved the box office after the pandemic in 2020. The movie earned over $1.5 billion. Jacinto portrayed the role of  LT Billy “Fritz” Avalone.

Manny Jacinto shared that he had intense training, and gym sessions for months and most of his lines were cut from the script and he hardly had any screen time. He added, “There was this sense of where the film was going [on set], like I can see them focusing the camera more on these [other] guys and not taking so much time on our scenes.”

The movie worked well for Glen Powell and Miles Teller, as they received a good amount of appreciation for their roles but not Jacinto.

Apart from impressive looks and physique, Jacinto is known for his role in ‘Star Wars’, ‘The Acolyte’ on Disney+. He’s also known for his famous role with Nicole Kidman in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’.

But Jacinto also shared about his good experience from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. He continued, “Fortunately, it still was a great experience — you get to see this huge machine at work, see how Tom Cruise works, and you get to be a small part of this huge franchise.” He learned a lot of things from his role in the movie.
