‘Oppenheimer‘ has proven to be a masterpiece for several reasons with the mark it left on the cinematic industry in 2023. Adorned with several awards, the movie has a star cast with Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh in important roles, with direction by Christopher Nolan.
The making of a masterpiece like ‘Oppenheimer‘ was not an easy feat for anyone and everyone involved in its making. Narrating one such incident which isn’t the most fond memory for the film’s cast, Florence Pugh recalled how the camera broke while she and Cillian Murphy were bare-naked for a sex scene.
“It Was Not Ideal Timing”: Florence Pugh Recalls The Unexpected Challenge On ‘Oppenheimer’ Set
Speaking during a Universal panel, Florence Pugh detailed an incident when she and Cillian Murphy faced an unexpected challenge while filming a sex scene for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer‘. “In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke,” Pugh said. “No one knows this, but it did. Our camera broke when we were both naked, and it was not ideal timing,” she added.
Pugh played the character of Jean Tatlock in the film while Murphy portrayed the pivotal character of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The actors were in the midst of a closed-set sex scene when the camera malfunctioned. As described by Pugh, they both had to hold their bodies in place until the technical issue was resolved.
“Cillian and I are in this room together. It’s a closed set, so we’re both holding our bodies like this,” Pugh said, wrapping her arms around herself.
Pugh Made The Situation Worse For Herself Because She Was Curious
The actress also explained how when someone reached the scene to fix the camera, she thought “this is my moment to learn,” and asked the man: “So tell me, what’s wrong with this camera?”
“You just make your moments,” Pugh said as she told the audience about how she made the situation even more embarrassing than it already was, drawing a wave of laughter from them. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on with the shutter here, buddy?’”
Despite the unexpected interruption, Pugh praised Christopher Nolan’s production team, for their expertise and readiness of every person on set. ‘Oppenheimer‘ has received 13 Oscar nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Director (Christopher Nolan), and Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt) and Actor (Robert Downey Jr.).
