The demand was realized in approximately $1.01 million in sales, well ahead of the venue’s previous record. To put that in perspective, Nolan’s Oscar-winning ‘Oppenheimer‘ made about $341,000 during the same timeframe.

What’s even more impressive is that several of the opening weekend screenings were sold out almost immediately, even though they are a year in the future. The phenomenon highlights the immense trust audiences have in Nolan’s filmmaking, especially following the cultural impact of ‘Oppenheimer’.

‘The Odyssey’ is a tale of the epic journey of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, going back to his home after the Trojan War. It’s based on Homer’s legendary Greek epic poem. On the way, he meets with mythical creatures, powerful gods, and dangers that make the story one of the most enduring adventures in literature.

The cast of the film is impressive, with Matt Damon as Odysseus. He is joined by Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron, just to name a few.

Nolan’s bold move to shoot the whole thing on IMAX 70mm cameras only adds to the excitement, and a format that has been synonymous with the director’s greatest cinematic successes.

The tickets are selling out faster than ever, and ‘The Odyssey’ has been over a year away from release, and Nolan is already proving himself one of the few filmmakers who can make a movie release a true worldwide event. With early demand showing, Odysseus’ homecoming may turn out to be one of the biggest box-office voyages in modern cinema history.
