A call from Christopher Nolan would be a dream come true for most actors. It was unsurprisingly an unforgettable experience for Tom Holland. However, for a different reason.
When Nolan called the actor to meet with him, he was sure there was some sort of mistake and that the famed director had meant to call Timothée Chalamet.
Before Joining ‘The Odyssey’, Tom Holland Thought Christopher Nolan Had Made A Mistake

In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Holland recalled the surreal experience, giving fans a look into the uncertainty that preceded his landing a major role in Nolan’s highly anticipated epic, ‘The Odyssey’.

Before meeting with Nolan, Holland said he and his team were not aware of what the filmmaker was up to. His agents floated some wildly different possibilities, in fact, suggesting the secret project could either be a vampire movie or a large-scale space adventure.
Now it’s clear that both theories were utterly mistaken. “Honestly, I thought he was supposed to call Timothée Chalamet. They told me that it was a vampire movie or an ensemble space movie. So it’s either a vampire movie or a Christopher Nolan space movie, and it was neither of those,” he shared.
After years of leading one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises as Spider-Man, the self-deprecating joke showcased Holland’s down-to-earth personality. Even when Holland flew from London to Los Angeles for a private meeting in Nolan’s home, he still wasn’t sure what role he was being considered for.
Holland Accepted ‘The Odyssey’ On The Spot

Nearly an hour later, Nolan finally gave the title of the project: ‘The Odyssey’. Holland didn’t immediately jump for joy, but he did experience a moment of panic. He knew little of Homer’s epic poem, and only the Cyclops came to mind. Even with that moment of doubt, he took it up without any hesitation.

Later, Holland called the script one of the most amazing he had ever read, and he explained why he couldn’t help but be interested in it. Telemachus has already created a lot of buzz, and ‘The Odyssey’ is one of the most anticipated films of the year.
Early reactions have only bolstered expectations that Nolan has once again produced another ambitious cinematic spectacle. Moreover, Holland’s story is a reminder that even the biggest stars experience moments of doubt.
