Tarzan is one of the characters with whom we have shared millions of memories since the time we were kids. Different production studios have tried to bring the character to life on the big screen so that the audiences can revisit their childhood again but the attempts have always received a mixed response.
The latest reboot happened at Warner Bros. with ‘The Legend of Tarzan’, released in 2016. Directed by David Yates, the film grossed around $357 million at the box office but it lost around $40 million. Plans for a sequel remained on hold for a long time but now, Sony has entered the field to bring a brand new reboot.

‘Tarzan’ Reboot In Development At Sony
The Hollywood Reporter stated that the rights to the character have been purchased by Sony and they are planning to bring Tarzan in a whole new form for the audience. But for now, no one has been hired to write or direct the film.
Warner Bros. committed the mistake of bringing Tarzan in such a way that it could connect well with the audiences of that time. But it is a character that must remain faithful to the way it was created originally for the public. The character was created at a time when people had different opinions about colonialism, race, and gender.
Now because Sony is planning to reinvent Tarzan, the director who will be brought in will have a big task to do. It is important that the mixed response towards the character should be changed as soon as possible so that it can become a big franchise at one point.

Who Will Play The Lead Role?
Sources for Giant Freakin Robot revealed ago that there have been discussions with Tom Holland to play the role of Tarzan in the reboot. This sounds like a miscasting but it must be noted that Holland has always expressed his interest in pulp-adjacent stories of adventure.
Holland has previously played an important role in another adventure film, ‘Uncharted‘, released in 2022. But for now, it is important that someone with a great physique and personality must be cast for the role. Tarzan was portrayed by Alexander Skarsgard in the 2016 film and there is rarely someone left in the industry of his level to play the role.
