Science fantasy films are loved by everyone and specifically when they feature action and adventure. That is what the ‘Journey’ franchise proved to be and they were loved for adapting Jules Verne’s worlds mentioned in his books which were beyond anyone’s imagination.
The first film, ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’, was released in 2008 followed by ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ in 2012. Both films were successful at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews. However, a third film has been in discussion for a long time but it has not happened yet. A confirmation has not come out so far so let’s check what has been the progress so far.

The Problem With ‘Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon’
Following the release of ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’, there were reports that the makers were planning two more sequels. Dwayne Johnson played the lead role in the second film but if he had to reprise his role in a sequel, it was important for him to get out of his busy schedule which was impossible considering the projects he was working on.
He later responded to a fan through Twitter and stated that ‘Journey 3‘ was not happening as the writers failed in creating a perfect script. He even appeared in ‘Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle’ and the film’s premise was similar to ‘Journey‘. The franchise would have worked even without Johnson but possibly the producers did not want to take any risk.

Will Dwayne Johnson Return If ‘Journey 3’ Is Made?
The producers of ‘Journey‘ have not given any update on a sequel in all these years because the second film was a bigger success compared to the first film, it is impossible to confirm a third film without Dwayne Johnson. Moreover, he has appeared in similar movies. This includes ‘Jungle Cruise’, which was released in 2021 and a sequel is also being developed for the same. He was also featured in Rampage which was a box-office success and a sequel is being planned.
Johnson was seen in ‘Black Adam’, which was released in 2022 and marked his debut as a superhero. He has a few other projects in hand but his hands are full for now and so, audiences should possibly stop expecting ‘Journey 3‘ at least for the next 3-4 years.
