In September 2022, Sam Smith released his first single from his fourth studio album ‘Gloria’. The ‘Unholy’ track became an instant hit within two weeks of its release creating a heavy buzz on all the social media platforms. It acquired the top position on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Kim became the first transgender woman to bag the first position on the Billboard 100 list. Now, the artist has created another history at the 65th Grammy Awards night.

Sam Smith Graciously Allowed Kim Petras To Give The Acceptance Speech
A confident girl who was born in a conservative environment in Germany was all set to become a global pop star. Since the age of two, Kim has known that she is a girl. The artist endured bullying and even her doctors said that she is “crazy”. But, due to the faith that they had in her, her parents encouraged her to go through the gender-affirming surgery.
At 16, Kim Petras became the youngest trans woman artist in the world. She has been in the industry for more than a decade writing songs for pop artists like Rihanna, Charli XCX, and Fergie. After the 2017 hit featuring Paris Hilton titled ‘I Don’t Want It At All’, the world recognized her potential.
But, in 2022 with ‘Unholy’, Kim has been recognized around the globe due to the duo performing the song together at every major show including SNL. On February 5th, 2023, the two graced the Grammy Awards 2023 where Sam was wearing a Valentino ensemble and Kim Petras veiled herself with a Victor Costa ensemble. They were nominated for the song in the ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ category. The two have won the coveted trophy creating history! Kim Petras became the first openly transgender woman artist to have won the trophy in the category.
The ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ artist graciously allowed Kim to have her moment. She thanked Sam Smith for letting her take over the podium and being “an angel” for having her on the album. ‘If Jesus Was A Rockstar’ artist thanked her parents and deceased friend and artist, Sophie for inspiring her and believing in her. Kim also extended her gratitude towards Madonna for what she did for the LGBTQIA+ community and asserted that if it would not have been for Madonna, she would not have been here.

Twitter Is Rejoicing The Moment And Praising The Artist
Twitter is surely divided over Kim and Sam’s win at the 65th Grammy Awards ceremony. Some extreme Twitteratis have hinted at the fact that Hollywood is promoting Satanism due to the duo’s iconic performance at the event. Some have hinted that Kim is not the first trans woman artist who has won the coveted gramophone.
Wendy Carlos, in 1970, was the first trans artist to win Grammys in the classical category. However, the majority of the people on Twitter are praising and rejoicing about the sweet moment that Sam and Kim shared at the awards ceremony.

it’s not too important because i’m happy a transgender person is winning but kim petras is not the first transgender person to win a grammy; wendy carlos was. she won three classical awards in 1970 and i’m a little sad to see wendy’s work not being acknowledged pic.twitter.com/oKv3ByGYQS
