Pop star Lizzo was in the headlines recently for her message on quitting, which sent shockwaves across the music industry. The singer is however now reaffirming her commitment to her fans and her passion for music, clarifying that she meant to quit the negativity that she’s getting on social media and not music as a profession altogether.
In a recent social media post that sparked concerns about her departure from the spotlight, the Grammy winner wrote a cryptic message declaring “I quit“. Her update came after the negative attention she received online regarding her appearance and character.
However, in a new video shared on Tuesday, Lizzo clarified her statement. She asserted that she was not stepping away from her career but rather choosing to ignore the negativity. “When I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention,” she explained, reaffirming that she’s still equally dedicated to her music and fans who uphold her.
Lizzo Is Mired In Controversies For Alleged Body Shaming And Creating Hostile Work Environment
Other than her music, Lizzo is known for her advocacy of body positivity. However, the singer has often faced criticism, including accusations of fat-shaming one of her dancers and allegations of sexual assault and creating a hostile work environment from former dancers in a lawsuit filed last year. She vehemently denies these claims.
Even though she is mired in these controversies, Lizzo says she aims to spread joy through her music and connect with her audience. “What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people, because I know I’m not alone,” she affirmed in her latest video.
Her message comes amidst a whirlwind of events, including a recent performance in New York City attended by three US presidents. As she was in the limelight during these events, the pop star drew criticism from some quarters given the ongoing allegations against her.
