The intro pre-chorus goes: “Let’s fast forward to three hundred takeout coffees later/ I see your profile and your smile on unsuspecting waiters/ You dream of my mouth before it called you a lying traitor/ You search in every maiden’s bed for somethin’ greater, baby.”

Taylor talks about how after the breakup it was hard for both of them to move on from the romance. She saw his smile in other people and he looked for the same passion he had with her in other people. Turns out they both failed. She sings, “Was it over when she laid down on your couch?/ Was it over when he unbuttoned my blouse?

This lyric mirrors the parts in ‘Style’ that goes, I say, “I heard, oh/ That you’ve been out and about with some other girl, some other girl”/ He says, “What you heard is true, but I/ Can’t stop thinkin’ ‘bout you and I”/ I said, “I’ve been there too a few times”.

This implies that their relationship was on and off and even after being apart and being with other people, they were still pretty much on each other’s minds: “Whеn you lost control (Uh-huh)/ Red blood, white snow (Uh-huh)/ Blue dress on a boat (Uh-huh)“. This refers to the automobile incident they both had and how after the breakup Swift was seen wearing a blue dress on a boat.

It further goes, “At least I had the decency/ To keep my nights out of sight/ Only rumors ’bout my hips and thighs.” Here she expresses her feelings on him publicising his love life a little too much. She then proceeds to talk about how the tabloids kept writing about her body and her romantic life.

Then comes, “If she’s got blue eyes, I will surmise that you’ll probably date her (Oh, no)/ You dream of my mouth before it called you a lying traitor (Oh)/ You search in every model’s bed for somethin’ greater, baby.”

Swift is known for her blue eyes. Here she talks about how he would go on to choose to date people with blue eyes. He has addressed this in his song ‘Two Ghosts’ where he says, “Same lips red, same eyes blue/ Same white shirt, couple more tattoos/ But it’s not you and it’s not me.”

Swift then goes on to say how he keeps searching for something better in every model’s bed- an ode to the number of models Harry has dated after Taylor.
