Taylor Swift is currently the reigning queen when it comes to concerts! She has been touring the USA with her ‘Eras Tour’ since March 2023. Before the tour, in October 2022, she released her tenth studio album titled ‘Midnights,’ which is, at the moment, the most successful Taylor album. But her current boyfriend, Matty Healy,’s controversial past is clouding her professional feats.
In April 2023, Taylor Swift parted ways with her six-year-long boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. Right after the breakup, rumors started going wild that she was dating ‘The 1975’ band member Matty Healy. He made many appearances during her ‘Eras Tour,’ and the couple has been spotted indulging in PDA. However, Matty has been involved in many controversies where he has been accused of Islamophobia, misogyny, and racism. Now, Swifties have started a hashtag campaign called #SpeakUpNow, where they are asking the ‘folklore’ artist to react to his past controversies.
Swifties Are Asking More Than Apology From Taylor Swift With The #SpeakNow Controversy
The ‘Eras Tour,’ along with becoming a commercially successful tour, has also presented many surprises for Swifties. During her New Jersey concert at MetLife Stadium, she announced the Deluxe Edition of ‘Midnights,’ with new collaborations with artists like Ice Spice and Lana Del Rey. Before that, the songstress announced that she would also release the re-recorded version of her third studio album, ‘Speak Now.’
Two weeks after the ‘Speak Now’ announcement, Swifties decided to launch an online campaign. They created the hashtag #SpeakUpNow and asked Taylor Swift for accountability. They penned an open letter to the Grammy-winning singer to address her current boyfriend’s controversies. In the letter, the fans ask for “more than an apology” from Taylor.
The statement read, “Use your platform responsibly and intentionally. Advocate for inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and promote empathy and understanding.” The letter acknowledges Taylor Swift’s freedom to make her “own choices and form relationships,” but she must “challenge harmful ideologies and inspire followers to join [her] in creating a more just and equitable world.”

Matty Healy Has Also Mocked The Artist’s Recent Collaborator, Ice Spice, During A Podcast
Taylor Swift brought Ice Spice on stage during her MetLife Stadium concert in New Jersey. She released and performed the ‘Karma’ remix with the rap sensation. However, Matty Healy, her current boyfriend, was laughing when hosts at ‘The Adam Friedland Show’ mocked Ice Spice’s racial ethnicities. She is of Dominican and Nigerian origin. They called her a “chubby Chinese Girl” and an “Innuit Spice Girl.”
During a New Yorker profile interview, Matty Healy did not seem to be apologetic about his behavior, mocking the ‘Munch’ rapper. He said, “But it doesn’t actually matter. Nobody is sitting there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and goes, ‘What’s wrong, darling?’ and they go, ‘It’s just this thing with Matty Healy.’ That doesn’t happen.”
He continued, “You’re either deluded or you are, sorry, a liar. You’re either lying that you are hurt, or you’re a bit mental for being hurt. It’s just people going, ‘Oh, there’s a bad thing over there, let me get as close to it as possible so you can see how good I am.’ And I kind of want them to do that, because they’re demonstrating something so base level.”
In the letter, Swifties also accuse Taylor Swift of “perpetuating hatred and contributing to systematic oppression undermines the progress that was made towards equality and understanding.”
