Is ‘Manifest’ Based on Real Incident?
Despite being a fantasy series, the idea behind the creation of ‘Manifest‘ is inspired by a real-life incident. The inspiration for the series came from the unexplained disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, which left millions of people baffled when the story broke in March 2014.
On the way to China from a Malaysian airport, the plane disappeared and was surprisingly never found till now. There were over 200 people on the plane and all of them were flagged missing or killed in the accident. Multiple governments worked together on search-and-rescue efforts, but it always led to a dead end.
Some pieces of the plane have been found, but Flight 370, will remain an ongoing mystery, though investigators have developed their theories on what may have caused the disappearance. Though inspired by real-life incidents, the show’s development of characters made its story feel more relevant. Many mysteries featured in ‘Manifest’ are entirely fiction, except for the missing plane. Each season introduces us to a new mystery-Zeak’s survival or new Callings and ends with a cliffhanger.
