EuphoriaSeason 3 closed the curtain with its finale episode, which premiered on May 31. It was nothing short of a rollercoaster of emotions, but now the question remains: Will the show return for a fourth season?

According to the latest reports, HBO has confirmed that the series, which began in 2019, has officially run its course. Sam Levinson’s show took the younger generation by storm upon its release and has now ended on a bittersweet note. So, how did it all play out? Let’s unpack the ending.

After creator Sam Levinson confirmed the show’s ending, HBO followed suit and set the record straight. According to Variety, the company’s executives confirmed that the show has concluded its run after seven years since its release.

The show kick-started filming in 2018 and has depicted some of the dark and horrifying themes about teenagers’ dysfunctional lives, including substance abuse and violence. It focused on how such issues inadvertently influenced the characters’ relationships with their friends and partners later on.

When asked whether he would work on a fourth season, Levinson gave a vague response to ‘Popcast’ by The New York Times. “As of right now, all I want to do is hang out with my wife and kids and read some Elmore Leonard and watch ‘Mrs. Miniver again,” he said.

This isn’t surprising considering the reports and speculations surrounding the show’s cast. For instance, Jacob Elordi reportedly wanted to move on from the show, and so did Zendaya. However, both actors stayed for the season finale. As for the ending, it was bittersweet and yet polarizing, and here’s how.

A Polarizing Yet Befitting Finale

If there’s one thing we truly know about the finale of ‘Euphoria,’ it’s that the episode left many fans divided. The third season showcased some of the disturbing, goriest, and unsettling moments. The last episode turned out to be no different.

Spoiler alert: Alamo meets a bloody end at the hands of Ali, who grapples with Rue’s death cum murder. Her death was shattering, especially considering the flashbacks she experienced. She sees her mother, Fez, and her sister, and as a last resort, she reaches out to hold on to something, but to no avail.

Shortly after, it was revealed that Alamo laced the painkillers with an analgesic, triggering her overdose. Ali, who has been a major father figure to Rue, finds her and takes matters into his own hands. After all, he’s someone who has served as her mentor and guide throughout the series.

Ali eventually shoots Alamo in his strip club, fully armed in his military attire, all thanks to Bishop. Alas! Alamo’s right-hand man betrays him by taking out the bullets from his gun, making it the perfect conclusion to the series. Across town, Laurie ends her life while Maddie and Cassie navigate the debts and hardships while staying in the mansion.

Maddie takes on the role of a caretaker and breadwinner, whereas Cassie stays home. Meanwhile, Jules and Lexi process Rue’s death and deal with grief in their own ways. Nate’s death is kept under wraps from Lexi, who reads Rue’s Bible as a form of comfort. At last, Jules starts living with the benefactor and, while painting, reminisces about her time with Rue.

Overall, the finale was jarring and shattering. But honestly, the foreshadowing of Rue’s death was very much there, especially when she said she saw God. The character has undergone near-death experiences in previous episodes of this season. So, while the ending of ‘Euphoria’ may feel disjointed to some, it is befitting given the show’s themes and overall essence.
